  • Hyperthyroidism can be difficult to treat. Treatment may include medication to stop the production of the hormone. It contains propyltiouracil and methimazole (Tapazole).
  • Radioactive iodine treatment can also inactivate the thyroid. This medicine is used to lower the thyroid level. It can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months.
  • Thyroid surgery can remove any part of the gland.
